Not only did the Cleveland Browns lose 24-22 to the Green Bay Packers on Saturday night, they also received a very concerning injury update from their star defensive end after the game. Myles Garrett, one of the best defensive ends in the league, let reporters know how his injured groin felt in the media room in the post-game press conference.

He was limping into the media room, according to Zac Jackson of The Athletic. He also said he hadn’t really run or tested it all week. “Feels like sh-t,” he said. That’s not good news for Cleveland fans, who saw their team drop to 13th in the AFC standings after falling to 7-8 overall. The Browns‘ playoff hopes took a major hit.

Those playoff hopes also took another major hit when hearing about Garrett’s groin injury update. If he can’t be 100 percent, it’s a major downgrade for their defense. Myles Garrett’s freakish like pass-rushing production is simply not something that can be replaced.

He just had one tackle and one quarterback hit tonight against the Packers, so that’s got to be concerning for Browns’ fans. Sometimes players can manage the pain and play at a high level through groin injuries (please see 2021 Lions running back D’Andre Swift). However, Garrett’s groin injury does not appear to be one of those cases, at least not tonight against Green Bay.

Entering the game, Garrett was in contention for NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors. His chances for that award likely took a pretty big hit after his performance in the Packers’ game.

Still, he’s been the unblockable force in 2021 that the Browns drafted him to be. Before the game on Saturday night, he’d racked up 15 sacks, 16 tackles for loss, and 28 quarterback hits for the 2021 season.

Myles Garrett prospect profile

Myles Garrett is one of the most highly touted football prospects of all-time and he’s lived up to that lofty billing on every level of football he’s played. As a former five-star prospect coming out of Martin High School in Arlington, Texas, Garrett was one of the most dominant prospects in the 2014 recruiting class.

As a senior, he racked up 81 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, and 19 quarterback hurries. He also had three forced fumbles and four blocked kicks. The Texas native was named an Under Armour All-American.

When he enrolled at Texas A&M, the five-star didn’t disappoint there either. He became the ninth player in school history to earn unanimous first-team All-America honors in 2016. The uber-talented defensive end was also a finalist for the Bednarik and Rotary Lombardi Awards. He finished his highly decorated Texas A&M career with 145 total tackles, 48.5 tackles for loss, and 32.5 sacks.

The Browns will face the Steelers next on Monday, Jan. 3. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. EST.
