Xavier McKinney self-reports injury after vacation incident during bye week
After starting and playing every defensive snap of the season so far for the New York Giants, safety Xavier McKinney revealed on Monday that he’ll have to miss time due to an injury he suffered during the bye week. He self-reported his injury news with a notes app drop on Twitter.
“During our bye week, I went away to Cabo,” McKinney wrote. “While there, I joined a group for a guided sight-seeing tour on ATVs. Unfortunately, I had an accident and injured my hand. The injury will keep me sidelined for a few weeks.
“I will do everything I can to get back as quickly as possible so I can contribute to what we’re building here in NY.”

New York skipper Brian Daboll gave the team almost the entire week off after a 27-13 loss last Sunday in Seattle. Unfortunately, the bye week off ended up being more destructive than restorative for McKinney.

Giants lose McKinney for a ‘few weeks’
Through Week 9 of the 2022 season, McKinney has 38 tackles, four passes defensed, one sack and one forced fumble. He’s fourth on the team in stops so far. As part of the defensive unit, the former Alabama star has helped New York get off to a 6-2 start.
After going No. 36 overall in the 2020 draft, McKinney’s career in New York got off to a slow start. He missed most of his rookie season with a foot injury and only contributed in six games. Going into the 2021 season, he took over the starting role and recorded 93 tackles and five interceptions, including a pick-six.
Sitting behind the third-year player is rookie Dane Belton. He’ll jump into action feet first this week as the Giants host the Houston Texans on Sunday for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff.
