The New York Jets suddenly have a penchant for Green Bay Packers quarterbacks. Former Packers QB Tim Boyle is reportedly inking a deal with the Jets to join the team for the 2023 season, according to Mike Garafolo.

Boyle’s signing is a reunion for the three-year Packers backup and former offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. As the Jets continue their quest to get Aaron Rodgers on the roster, it’s another move that sets him up with familiar support in New York.

Boyle originally signed with Green Bay in 2018 for $486,000. He stayed for two more seasons until he was able to ink his first $1 million+ deal with the Detroit Lions.

Going into the 2022 season, the Lions released him and then picked him back up for the practice roster in September. He eventually signed to the Chicago Bears active roster in November.

A graduate of Eastern Kentucky, Boyle has 66 completions in 17 career NFL games. He saw action in 11 games in Green Bay but his most productive season was in 2021. He had 61 completions on 94 pass attempts for 526 yards. Unfortunately, he posted just three touchdowns to six interceptions.

Packers GM Brian Gutekunst: No timeline for Aaron Rodgers trade

It seems inevitable that the Green Bay Packers will trade quarterback Aaron Rodgers before the 2023 season, but it remains unclear exactly when a deal will get done. Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said last week that there is still “no timeline” on a trade involving the four-time MVP, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Pelissero also reported that Gutekunst “doesn’t necessarily need a first-round pick” in return for Rodgers.

Rodgers said earlier this month that his intention is to play for the New York Jets. The Jets have also expressed interest in bringing him on via trade, but the two sides have so far been unable to come to an agreement.

The Jets own the 13th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and it has been speculated that it would be included in a potential trade for the quarterback. However, it now appears New York could still get Rodgers and keep the pick to add another talented player. The Jets also have the 42nd and 43rd overall picks, the former of which they acquired in a recent trade with Cleveland.
