New York Jets sign former Dallas Cowboys special teamer
The New York Jets announced Saturday that they signed former Dallas Cowboys kicker Greg Zuerlein, via the team’s social media. The veteran kicker also spent time with the St. Louis and Los Angeles Rams, where he received NFL All-Pro honors.
The 34-year old kicker from Missouri Western State provides a veteran presence in the competition to take the starting job, joining former Florida kicker Eddy Pineiro.
Over his career, Greg Zuerlein has converted 82.2 percent of his field goals, including 82.9 percent while with the Dallas Cowboys. He has a career long of 61 yards and his long last season came from 56 yards. In addition, Zuerlein has converted 95.8 percent of his career extra point attempts.
The Dallas Cowboys currently have no kicker on the roster, and will either need to find a replacement in free agency or search for one in the draft.
Cowboys make unique hire
The Cowboys have hired experienced offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer for a role that is not common around the NFL. According to NFL reporter Albert Breer, Schottenheimer will join Dallas in a role where he assists both the offensive and defensive coordinator.

“Sources: The Cowboys are hiring Brian Schottenheimer, the Jaguars’ pass-game coordinator last year, into a unique role, where he’ll help both coordinators, Dan Quinn and Kellen Moore,” tweeted Breer. “Much of Schottenheimer’s job will center on league trends and game-planning. Pretty cool idea.”
Moreover, the 48-year old Schottenheimer brings a wealth of experience to Dallas. Over his NFL career that’s spanned over two decades, he’s been the offensive coordinator of various franchises. To illustrate, Schottenheimer has led the offenses of the New York Jets, St. Louis Rams, Georgia Bulldogs and Seattle Seahawks.
Now, the experienced offensive coordinator adds another talented offensive mind to the Cowboys staff. You can never have too many of those.
