NFL insider reveals serious reservations Dallas Cowboys have about signing Odell Beckham Jr.
The Dallas Cowboys are trying to find the right “fit” with free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. However, following Monday’s visit from the former Giant, the team is reportedly still harboring concerns about his health. ESPN’s Ed Werder shared a report from a source that revealed Beckham is still questionable to contribute for the remainder of the season.
“The #Cowboys have concerns after Odell Beckham Jr.’s physical that his recovery from torn left ACL in Super Bowl has not progressed enough to ensure he would play before mid-January and possibility exists signing him would have no benefit until 2023 season,” Werder tweeted on Tuesday.
Part of the visit was a health checkup at the Star facility with head athletic trainer Jim Maurer and director of rehabilitation Britt Brown.
The 30-year-old receiver is coming back from a second ACL tear in the past two seasons, leaving many, including the Cowboys, to wonder how healthy he currently is.
Fellow ESPN reporter Todd Archer also shared his insight on Beckham’s status with the Cowboys.
“It was telling, IMO, that Jerry put no timeline on OBJ signing, which seems odd,” Archer tweeted. “Wouldn’t team want him in building right away to start process of getting him game ready. And when Jones paused when @BobbyBeltTX asked him if OBJ thought he was ready to play, was also telling.”
Jones reviews OBJ’s visit to Dallas
Owner and general manager Jerry Jones joined 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday after Beckham‘s very public visit to the DFW Metroplex on Monday. Jones said he “enjoyed every minute” of the former Giant’s trip, which included “extensive meetings,”
“We had pretty extensive meetings,” Jones said, via Jon Machota. “We spent quite a bit of time together. I enjoyed every minute of it. We’ll get back together today and see where we go from here. A lot of variables. It has to fit for both parties.”

“By no means are we in a position to say how close or where we are,” Jones added. “We’re just discussing the many options that are there.”
The Cowboys were the third stop on Beckham’s list after meeting with the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants last week. On Monday night, the star receiver took in the Dallas Mavericks game versus the Phoenix Suns at the American Airlines Center.
Beckham took in the 130-111 Mavs win alongside the Cowboys’ top two defensive players — Trevon Diggs and Micah Parsons.
The free agent wasn’t in a hurry to reveal whether Monday’s meetings yielded results.
“Just went and grabbed some food. That’s all. Everything is nice,” Beckham told Machota of the Mavs game festivities. “I plead the fifth on everything else.”
