The Seattle Seahawks selected Jalen Milroe with the 92nd overall pick (Round 3) of the 2025 NFL Draft on Friday night, making him the fourth quarterback to come off the draft board.

Milroe, who was the third Alabama player taken in the 2025 NFL Draft, is the seventh starting quarterback of Nick Saban’s 17-year tenure in Tuscaloosa to be chosen in the seven rounds of the NFL draft. And Saban, who was in Green Bay, reacted to Milroe’s selection.

“He’s gonna give the Seahawks an element of offense that nobody else in this draft can give anybody because this guy is fast,” Saban said on ABC. “He’s explosive. And look, he can throw the ball. He’s got a strong arm. He’s a great deep-ball thrower. He just needs a little refinement and consistency in the passing game, and he can be an outstanding player.”

In his second season as the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback, Milroe threw for 2,844 yards, 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, while completing 64.5 percent of his passes. Milroe also rushed for an Alabama-leading 726 yards and 20 touchdowns on 168 attempts.

In four seasons at Alabama, Milroe appeared in 38 career games and made 26 starts. He threw for 6,016 yards, 45 touchdowns and 20 interceptions while completing 64 percent of his passes. The mobile quarterback also rushed for 1,579 career yards and 33 touchdowns on 375 carries. Milroe holds the single-season record for most rushing touchdowns by an Alabama quarterback (20), passing Jalen Hurts’ mark of 13 scores in 2016 as a freshman.

Milroe led the Tide to a 20-6 record the last two seasons and will join a Seattle roster that does not need the rookie to come in and start right away with Sam Darnold, Drew Lock, Sam Howell and Jaren Hall already in town. That could allow Milroe to focus on improving in Year 1, which is what Saban wants to see from his former quarterback at the next level.

“The thing that I always preached to him about is, ‘Jalen, you make enough big plays. How about let’s eliminate some of the bad plays – the sacks, the fumbles, the interceptions – because those are all drive-stopping plays. And you make enough good plays,’” Saban said.

“Here, he drops back to pass and then takes off running. This breaks down a defense and defines what a defense can do playing against this guy because you can’t play a lot of man-to-man. You can’t turn your back to him.”
