Northwestern transfer quarterback Mike Wright has verbally committed to East Carolina, On3’s Pete Nakos reported. He also previously played at Vanderbilt and Mississippi State.

Wright appeared in only three games this past season for the Wildcats. He ranks as the No. 155 quarterback in the transfer portal according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Wright initially began his college career at Vanderbilt in 2020. He played 26 total games across three seasons with the Commodores, making 11 starts.

Wright had the best season of his college career as a junior in 2022. He finished that year with 974 yards passing and 12 touchdowns to four interceptions along with 517 yards rushing and another five touchdowns on the ground.

Following that season, he transferred to Mississippi State and played in 12 games with three starts. He was also on the track and field team during his lone season with the Bulldogs.

Wright played high school football at Woodward Academy in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was a three-star prospect. He ranked as the No. 574 overall player and No. 39 quarterback in the 2020 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Wright is 17th player and the only quarterback that East Carolina has brought in through the transfer portal this offseason. He joins a team coming off of an 8-5 record this past season and will hope to compete for the starting job.

The spring transfer portal opened Wednesday, April 16 and closed 10 days later on Friday, April 25. As of this writing, more than 3,900 FBS scholarship players have entered the transfer portal in the 2024-25.

More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers. That means roughly 25% of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year.
