Notre Dame announced on Aug. 15 of last year that the university would suspend the men’s swimming team for at least one academic year because of “a deeply embedded team culture dismissive of Notre Dame’s standards for student-athletes” that was confirmed via an external review from the law firm of Ropes & Gray LLP. Wednesday, the school announced the team will be reinstated next season.

Notre Dame director of athletics Pete Bevacqua’s statement on the status of the Fighting Irish men’s swimming team …
“Over the course of the last year, our men’s swimming team has taken the critical and necessary steps to correct the issues that led to the suspension of the program this past summer. As a result, we have made the determination that our men’s swimming team will return to full competition next season. While we have all learned some difficult lessons through this process, we are confident that this team is set up for success in the future.”

The Fighting Irish are getting after it in winter workouts in the form of a highly competitive battle of tug of war. Just about three weeks until the players are back on the field in a football capacity for spring practices.

Jack Kiser spent six seasons in South Bend as a Fighting Irish linebacker. The sixth was arguably the most special. He opined on the trajectory of the program in an NFL Combine media interview answer.

It’s senior day in South Bend for the Fighting Irish women’s basketball team. Of them, Watson and Miles have one year of eligibility remaining for the 2025-26 season.

Fighting Irish quote of the day

“I’m someone who understands the whole defense. I got to play in Al Golden’s defense. I’m pretty much NFL ready when it comes to the playbook. I just try to showcase that and really put my best foot forward.”
