Every year there are a handful of head coaches who enter the season on the hot seat, knowing they need to win right away or jeopardize their job with their current program.

Someone will be fired early in the season, if past years are any indication.

To that end, Las Vegas has established odds on the first coach fired this season and there are a number of prominent coaches vying for that honor. Most are at Power Five programs that demand a high level of success, ratcheting up the pressure.

So who is most in jeopardy?

A pair of SEC coaches take the top two spots. Florida head coach Billy Napier is listed at +400 to be the first coach fired, while Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman is listed next at +500.

In fact, the SEC claims three of the top five spots, with Vanderbilt‘s Clark Lea also included at +800.

Miami coach Mario Cristobal (+600) and Baylor coach Dave Aranda (+700) round out the top five behind Napier and Pittman.

Interestingly enough, Napier and Cristobal will show off in a season-opening showdown that will likely set the tone for the loser going forward. It’s going to be hard to overcome a loss to a key rival to start the season, especially given the schedules that each program faces after that.

Then after the most likely to be fired there are a handful of much more intriguing long shots.

Ohio State coach Ryan Day is listed at +1200, a remarkable figure for a coach who has had his overall level of success. Of course, beating Michigan has become problematic and that could be a deal-breaker for Day if he can’t flip the script.

Then there are a couple coaches with much longer odds who will raise some eyebrows. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and USC head coach Lincoln Riley both check in at +2500.

Both have had tremendous success over the years but are coming off lackluster seasons with a ton of talent on the roster.

Finally, Colorado‘s Deion Sanders checks in at +5000 after just one season in charge of the Buffaloes.
