On300 CB Curley Reed commits to Washington
After a series of visits to schools nationwide this spring and summer, Curley Reed‘s college decision finally “hit.”
The realization came for Reed, the On3 Consensus‘ No. 15-rated cornerback in the country, while officially visiting Washington last month. The combination of not only athletics but relationships and opportunities away from the football field helped Reed settle on the Huskies pretty effortlessly.
After all, Huskies assistant Julius Brown, more affectionately known as “Coach Juice,” has led with his actions as much as his recruiting.
“The relationship I have with Coach Juice and Coach (Erick) Franklin,” Reed told On3. “We connected and talked, and that’ll play a big role for me. Going to Seattle with Coach Juice being so close to my head coach, he can take me under his wing and look out for me, and that’s the type of connection we have.”
“When I was injured, these were the coaches that stuck around,” he continued, referring to a season-ending injury to his leg as a junior. “The coaches that didn’t stick around — that showed me a lot. After, I knew which coaches were in my corner and which coaches weren’t in my corner.”

The Lake Charles (La.) College Prep four-star defensive back visited an array of schools around the country this offseason, including LSU, USC, Florida State, Oregon, Nebraska and Washington officially on June 24 weekend. Leaving that visit to return home to Louisiana, Reed noted that one of the notable highlights was the opportunities he had in Washington outside of athletics.
“The big city … it’s huge and it’s full of opportunities,” he said. “We were sitting down with people from Amazon and big companies in Seattle and they were giving us insight on how to be successful after football. It instantly hit me and that actually plays a big role in my commitment.”
Curley is the nation’s No. 142 overall player in the country regardless of position, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
