Packers make Tuesday roster move amid Aaron Rodgers drama
The Green Bay Packers made a roster move on Tuesday, as conversations and drama surrounding the future of Aaron Rodgers dominated headlines. Green Bay has signed kicker Dominik Eberle, putting the future of their veteran Mason Crosby into some doubt before the 2022 NFL season.
Packers make roster move while Rodgers contemplates future
“The Packers have signed kicker Dominik Eberle,” stated ESPN’s Field Yates on Tuesday, adding a joke about the day filled with news of Rodgers. “Some are calling it the news out of Green Bay all were waiting for today.”
While Rodgers dominated the day and the Packers offseason in general, the kicker situation in Green Bay has been a hot topic among fans and a concern for the team. Crosby has been the Packers’ guy since 2007 and has been a huge part of the franchise as the Packers’ kicking record holder. However, his 2021 season saw him struggle at times, leading to his second-worst career accuracy with 73.5 percent of his kicks made.
Eberle represents a possible future for the team, as the young kicker has yet to find a home at the NFL level. Undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft, Eberle has made the practice squad for the Raiders and Panthers both, but saw his only NFL action in December of last year with the Texans. As Texans’ kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn was unavailable for one game last season, Eberle got his NFL debut and made two of three attempts, including a 51-yard make. His only miss was another attempt from over 50 yards.

Eberle spent his college career with Utah State, where he left the school as the program’s record-holder for field goals made with 64. As a redshirt sophomore in 2017, Eberle hit all 47 of his extra point attempts, and made 18 of 24 field goal attempts. His 2017 season saw him named as a finalist for the Lou Groza Award.
Aaron Rodgers: ‘There will be no news today’
More than 130,000 people tuned into The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday to hear Aaron Rodgers speak about his future. They heard him say two sentences they probably didn’t expect.
“There will be no news today,” he said. “No decision on my future.”
Rodgers won his second straight MVP award this season and his fourth of his career. He helped lead the Packers to a 13-4 record this year to pick up the NFC’s No. 1 seed. Green Bay fell to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional Round.
