Los Angeles Lakers guard Patrick Beverley is no stranger to technical fouls, but the one he received Saturday night was a first even for him. After teammate LeBron James complained to officials about a no-call in the final seconds of regulation against the Boston Celtics, Beverley went to extra lengths to prove him right.

Beverley went and found a camera that captured a photo of the play, showing it to official Eric Lewis. However, instead of changing his mind and agreeing with Beverley and James, Lewis called Beverley for a technical foul.

The technical resulted in Jayson Tatum receiving a free throw to begin the overtime period, as Boston went on to win 125-121. The technical foul marked the seventh this season for Patrick Beverley, tying him for 13th in the league.

On the play in question, James claimed he was struck on the arm by Tatum while attempting to go up for a game-winning layup. He remained with his head on the ground for several moments afterward, as many of his teammates walked up to console him after the incident.

Patrick Beverley controversy

Patrick Beverley made headlines after appearing on ESPN during the 2022 NBA Playoffs.

After the Dallas Mavericks put a beat down on the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference semifinals Game 7 matchup, Beverly was invited onto Get Up! and First Take to discuss the previous night’s game but he spent most of the time trashing Suns point guard, Chris Paul.

Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers hopped onto Twitter to discuss the comments, first asking Beverley “what CP (Chris Paul) do to you?” A follow-up tweet insinuated that what Beverley was saying on ESPN is not how others across the feel about Paul. Lillard even called him out by saying it was “weird behavior.”

“Bra on TV acting like his word law,” Lillard said. “Speaking on private convos and praying on mfs downfall. This weird behavior smh… I ain’t got a horse in the race.”
