Patrick Mahomes was — understandably — feeling himself during Wednesday’s Super Bowl parade. He took a selfie with a fan, but he left something important behind as he went back out to the street: the Lombardi Trophy.

Mahomes walked over to a group of fans amid the celebration and jumped into a selfie with the trophy in hand. Then, as he left, he handed it off to one of them and walked back out toward his teammates.

Cameras caught the whole thing.

Mahomes won Super Bowl MVP as he led the Chiefs to the 38-35 victory. After the first half saw his ankle injury flare up, he put together an impressive second half, completing 13 of 14 passes for 93 yards and two touchdowns. That gave him a 99.4 rating for the last two quarters — just 0.6 away from the maximum possible rating of 100.

Mahomes got 48 out of 50 possible first-place votes for the award, while Jalen Hurts and Josh Allen each got one.

Mahomes put together an impressive season in 2022 despite losing top target Tyreek Hill, who was traded to the Miami Dolphins. He still managed to throw for a career-high 5,250 yards in addition to his 41 touchdowns to lead the Chiefs to a Super Bowl appearance. He’ll take on Hurts in the big game after beating him out for the award.

It’s Mahomes’ second MVP award after previously winning the honor in 2018. That year, Mahomes threw for more than 5,000 yards and set a career high with 50 touchdown passes in his first full year as a starter. He also led the Chiefs to the AFC Championship, where they lost to the New England Patriots.
