Eagles reveal shocking injury to star defensive end
Josh Sweat has become one of the most important players on the Eagles defense since joining Philadelphia. However, a situation bigger than football happened earlier this week regarding Sweat.
On Sunday, it was revealed Sweat would miss the team’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It was the reason why that shocked the football world.
“On Tuesday night, Eagles defender Josh Sweat was admitted to the hospital,” tweeted NFL Insider Ian Rapoport. “He underwent an emergency procedure due to the severity of the matter. The doctors addressed a life-threatening situation. Sweat and the medical team did everything possible to help him return to play.”
As you can see, the severity of the situation shocked the collective football world. In one week, Sweat went from a life-threatening situation to almost being able to play in an NFL playoff game. While he won’t be attempting to sack Tom Brady on Sunday, having Sweat on the sidelines is a win alone for the Eagles.
Moreover, the franchise detailed the situation in a statement released on Sunday.
“On Tuesday night, Josh Sweat was admitted to the hospital. He underwent an emergency procedure due to the severity of the matter,” started the Eagles. “The doctors addressed a life-threatening situation.
“In the following days, Josh and our medical team did everything possible to help him return to play. He improved every day but it was determined by the doctors today that he was not quite ready. The fact that Josh came so close to playing is a credit to his toughness and our medical staff.”
Nobody can ever question the toughness and competitive drive of Josh Sweat again. As his team takes the field against the Buccaneers, his passion can serve as an inspiration to his teammates.

More on Josh Sweat, Philadelphia Eagles
From a strictly football perspective, missing Josh Sweat won’t be good news for the Eagles. The way to beat Tom Brady is by pressuring the quarterback, and the former Florida State star is one of the best for Philadelphia at doing so.
On the season, Sweat has accumulated 45 tackles and 7.5 sacks. Additionally, Sweat has added one forced fumble to his resume this season.
In their first showdown, Sweat made his presence known against the Buccaneers. While he didn’t get a sack, Sweat accumulated six tackles in the game — tied for his season high.
Josh Sweat overcame the injury that almost took his life from him earlier this week. Now, the Eagles will attempt to get a win for their star pass rusher on Sunday.
