The Florida Gators have landed one of the top basketball transfers in the country. Princeton point guard Xaivian Lee, a strong scorer and distributor, has committed to UF. Todd Golden’s program beat out St. John’s and Kansas to land this talented player.

The need for Lee was significant.

Walter Clayton, as a senior this past season, transitioned from shooting guard to point guard, led the Gators in scoring (18.3) and broke the all-time single-season UF record with 713 points while the team won the national title. Meanwhile, he also averaged 4.2 assists a game.

Clayton knocked down 117 3-pointers and many of them were clutch. He became the first player since Larry Bird in 1979 to score 30 points in both the Elite Eight and the next game at the Final Four. At the Final Four, Clayton was named Most Outstanding Player. To top everything off, he was the first Consensus All-American in school history.

In Lee, the Gators are getting an excellent player. And one who should be able to step into a starting role.
