The Dallas Cowboys have been plagued with injuries, especially on the defensive and received worse news as defensive end Dorance Armstrong will miss the Cowboys’ Monday Night Football game with a high ankle sprain, according David Moore of the Dallas Morning News.

“DE Dorance Armstrong will miss Monday night’s game with a high ankle sprain, a source said,” Moore tweeted. “There’s a good chance he misses all 3 games in this home stand, but there’s reason to believe he could return quicker than the typical 4-6 week timeframe.”

The Cowboys have already lost star defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence for an extensive time period with a broken foot, defensive end Randy Gregory missed Dallas’ win over the Los Angeles Chargers with COVID-19, linebacker Keanu Neal was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday and wide receiver Amari Cooper is nursing bruised ribs suffered against the Chargers.

With Lawrence and Gregory out against the Chargers last weekend, Dorance Armstrong stepped into a bigger role, but recorded just one tackle against Los Angeles.

To compensate for the loss of Lawrence, the Cowboys moved rookie Micah Parsons from linebacker to defensive end, the position he played in high school. Parsons recorded a sack, two tackles and four quarterback hits in his first game at defensive end. With Armstrong out for Monday Night Football, and potentially longer, Parsons’ move to defensive end may stick for a couple weeks.

Dorance Armstrong is in his fourth year in the NFL after a three-year career at Kansas. In three seasons with the Jayhawks, Armstrong recorded 142 tackles, 34.5 tackles for loss, 15.5 sacks and six forced fumbles. As a sophomore Armstrong earned first-team All-Big 12 honors and followed it up with second-team All-Big 12 honors as a junior, before declaring for the NFL Draft.

Armstrong was drafted in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cowboys. In his career in Dallas, Dorance Armstrong has recorded 64 tackles, 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.

Dallas will face off against division rival Philadelphia on Monday Night Football in Week 3.
