The Minnesota Vikings are expected to hire Chris Rumph as their defensive line coach, a source told On3. Rumph is a former assistant in the college football coaching ranks, making stops at Alabama, Texas, Florida, and Tennessee. He was the defensive line coach for the Chicago Bears last season.

As the defensive line coach for the Bears, he got great results out of that unit. Robert Quinn had 18.5 sacks for Chicago, and Rumph also got solid play out of a few defensive linemen. He was the Houston Texans outside linebackers coach in 2020.

Rumph has coached college football for over 15 years. His son, Chris Rumph II, played his college football at Duke and was drafted by the LA Chargers in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Vikings defensive line in 2022 has as chance to be very good if their pieces can get healthy. Danielle Hunter is one of the best pass rushers in the league, if he can stay healthy. That’s a big if. He missed all of the 2020 season with a herniated disc in his neck and played in just seven games in 2021 as the result of a torn pectoral muscle.

The Vikings offense should be explosive in 2022

The Vikings offense should be explosive in 2022, as they return one of the best receiving corps in the National Football League in Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen. They also return Dalvin Cook, who’s shown when he plays at his best, he can be one of the league’s best at the running back position. In 2021, he rushed 249 times for 1,159 rushing yards and six touchdowns. As a receiver, he caught 34 passes for 224 receiving yards. It was a pretty good season for Cook, but it’ll be interesting to see if he can have more consistent game-to-game production in the 20222023 season.
