REPORT: NFL insider provides update on Saquon Barkley ankle injury
The health of Saquon Barkley is a big topic for New York Giants fans and fantasy football owners everywhere. After going down with an ankle injury early against the Dallas Cowboys, multiple NFL insiders have provided updates on the star running back’s status.
First to provide updates was ESPN reporter Jordan Raanan, who saw the aftermath of the game.
“Saquon Barkley on crutches with a boot on his left ankle following the game,” tweeted Raanan. He later added that head coach Joe Judge did not know the results of Barkley’s x-ray at that time.
NFL Network reporter Ian Rapaport worked his sources to gather more info on the injury and released his findings shortly after.
“Giants star running back Saquon Barkley is believed to have suffered a low-ankle sprain, sources say,” Rapaport tweeted Sunday night. “An injury that likely knocks him out next week. He’ll have more tests, but he’s best characterized as week-to-week. A fast healer, Barkley will work to miss only one week.”
The editorializing at the end of his tweet could always become a mute point after the tests, but Barkley has recovered quickly from past injuries.
In addition to the Barkley news, Raanan followed up his report with another piece of injury news. Based on what he saw, rookie wide receiver Kadarius Toney may have suffered an injury himself.
“Kadarius Toney was also shuttled on a cart to presumably get an x-ray after the game,” tweeted Raanan. “Likely a precaution. Was pointing to his leg/ankle.”

Saquon Barkley injured against Cowboys
The New York Giants saw running back Saquon Barkley suffer a frustrating injury in the first quarter that forced him to be carted off the field. Barkley appeared to injure his ankle on accidental contact with his own teammate, forcing him off the field before being carted off into the locker room.
After a long recovery process following an ACL tear against the Chicago Bears in just the second week of last season, Barkley returned to the Giants looking to make an immediate impact. The injury suffered against the Cowboys on Sunday is even more frustrating given his recent history.
After limping off the field, Barkley went to the sideline where he received medical attention. The severity of the injury forced medical staff to remove Barkley’s cleats, revealing the extent of his swelling to cameras.
Barkley was then carted off the field into the locker room for additional medical care. He was ruled out for the rest of the game against the Cowboys. While the extent of his injury is unknown, the Giants hope Saquon Barkley will not miss significant time.
