The New York Giants are scheduled to interview Dallas Cowboys’ defensive coordinator Dan Quinn on Monday for their head coaching position, according to NFL Network’s Albert Breer. He’s recently been one of the hottest coaching commodities in the NFL, after he piloted one of the biggest defensive turnarounds in league history this year.

Sure, the Cowboys got manhandled by the 49ers in the running game during their playoff matchup, but what Dan Quinn did in the 2021-2022 season for the Dallas defense was nothing short of remarkable.

A year ago, the Cowboys had one of the worst defenses in the NFL, allowing a franchise-record of 473 points in 2020. Dallas also had the second-worst run defense in the league, allowing 159 rushing yards per contest in a 6-10 campaign in Mike McCarthy’s first year with the team.

During the 2021-2022 season, the Cowboys went 12-5 overall and won the NFC East for the first time since 2018. Dallas led the league in takeaways (34) and interceptions (26) and were second in the league in getting off the field in third down (34 percent).

What Quinn did in Dallas was nothing short of incredible

Not only that, Quinn was a big part of the success of two of the league’s biggest stars, Dallas corner Trevon Diggs and linebacker Micah Parsons. Diggs did get burned plenty of times in the 2021-2022 season, there’s no question about that.

He’s the classic case of a feast or famine corner, but he sure did feast a lot this season. Diggs snatched 11 interceptions, the most by any player in league history in 40 years. That, ladies and gents, is absolutely incredible.

Quinn also helped guide Micah Parsons to NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors, according to a few media outlets. That hardware will be officially handed by the NFL in a few weeks at the NFL honors awards show. Parsons was an unblockable force of nature in 2021-2022, racking up 84 tackles, 13 sacks, 20 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, three pass breakups, and 30 quarterback hits in 16 games.

Sure, it was a brutally painful ending to the season for the Dallas Cowboys, but the fans need to remember the incredible turnaround their defense did from last season to this year.

There’s no question that Dan Quinn was a huge part of that and that’s exactly why he was getting head coaching offers from several other teams around the league, like the Minnesota Vikings recently.

That’s precisely why Micah Parsons said he hopes he stays with the franchise. We’ll just have to wait and see what the future brings for the Dallas franchise and Dan Quinn, but no matter what the turnaround he resurrected in 2021-2022 will never be forgotten.
