The Tennessee Titans have secured a huge new contract for one of their brightest stars in Harold Landry, according to a report on Tuesday. Landry’s new contract will be a five-year deal worth over $20 million in the first year, resulting in a massive payday to the Pro Bowl pass rusher.

Titans re-sign Harold Landry

“Titans defensive end Harold Landry gets $20.25 [million] in year one of his new, five-year, $87.5 million deal deal,” stated NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. “So he gets more than $2 million more than he would’ve made on a franchise tag and the team gets a better salary-cap number to start.”

The Titans move to sign Landry comes as great news for fans and Landry alike, as it provides the team flexibility on top of securing the Pro Bowl-level talent for a long-term deal. In 2021, Landry recorded 12 sacks and 14 tackles for a loss in his third year as a defensive starter for the team. Drafted by the Titans in the second round, it didn’t take long for Landry to solidify himself as a key part of their defense.

In addition to making Landry happy, the deal has positives for the Titans as well. By coming to a deal that Landry wanted, they avoid having to place a franchise tag on him. While the franchise tag contract would have been roughly $2 million cheaper this year, the move allows the Titans to restructure his contract in a way that helps them avoid painful hits to the salary cap.

While details haven’t emerged yet over how the contract’s numbers are spread out, the $20.25 million figure for the upcoming season would put him on par with the top-10 defensive salaries around the league. Although Landry can’t command the level of salary that TJ Watt received last year, the increased salary cap and increasing market for pass rushers certainly helped Landry receive his new deal.
