Romeo Doubs still impressing Packers despite struggles with drops during preseason

Romeo Doubs is turning out to be money for the Green Bay Packers — drops be damned.

While the fourth round wide receiver out of Nevada has dealt with his fair-share of drops throughout the preseason, his raw talents has been on display on multiple occasions. As the Packers look to fill a Devante Adams sized hole in their offense, the shifty Doubs can play a huge role in Green Bay.

Following an impressive performance that included a touchdown catch against the New Orleans Saints on Friday, Packers coach Matt LaFleur heaped some praise on the rookie pass catcher.

“It’s not going to be perfect,” LaFleur said after the game regarding Doubs, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN. “There’s going to be some lessons along the way. He’s a guy that is pretty resilient. He doesn’t get fazed by a negative play. He just keeps on playing. That’s what excites you about him. You see a guy with really good feet. He’s gotten really good in his transition. He’s got a burst. He’s been able to separate, which is something that’s tough to coach.

“Guys can either do it or they can’t. There’s stuff to clean up, for certain, but he’s a guy that we are excited about it.”

While the Packers brought in a mix of veterans and rookies to fill their gap at wide receiver, perhaps Romeo Doubs is beginning to separate himself from the pack. Moving forward, it’ll be interesting to see if Aaron Rodgers takes a liking to the former Nevada wide receiver.

Matt LaFleur praises Jordan Love: ‘Light years ahead’ of where he was last season

Matt LaFleur believes Packers’ former first round quarterback Jordan Love is beginning to find his NFL footing.

While it hasn’t always been pretty for Love in Green Bay, LaFleur heaped praise of the growth of the former Utah State star following his performance against the New Orleans Saints on Friday.

“I know the numbers don’t necessarily reflect probably how I feel,” LaFleur said, per Pro Football Talk. “He stood in the pocket and was throwing on rhythm. Unfortunately again we had too many drops.

“He was decisive. I think that’s the big thing from him. I see a much more decisive player out there. I think that’s going to lead to a much more effective player.”

While looking at the stat sheet, Love’s numbers don’t necessarily jump out — 12-for-24 for 113 yards, one touchdown, no interceptions, one sack. However, it’s evident LaFleur believes Love deserved better during the game, and the results will come if he continues to play the way he has.

While the Packers drafted Jordan Love to eventually supplant Aaron Rodgers, his future has become murkier than ever after Green Bay inked their star quarterback to an extension. Regardless of if he’s starting for the Packers or a different squad, Matt LaFleur is encouraged by what he’s seeing from the former first round selection.
