LOOK: Ryan Fitzpatrick shirtless in surprise appearance at Bills playoff game

This season didn’t go as planned for Washington Football Team quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Washington signed him to a one-year, $10 million contract in the offseason. But early in the season, Fitzpatrick suffered a hip injury that required him to miss the remainder of the year. Fitzpatrick wasn’t done making appearances at NFL games, though, as he made his presence in Buffalo well known on Saturday night for the playoff matchup between the Bills and New England Patriots.

The temperature was in single digits in Buffalo on Saturday, but that didn’t stop Fitzpatrick from watching the Bills while shirtless.

Fitzpatrick has been in the NFL since 2005. He has played 17 seasons, including four with the Bills. In his four-year stint in Buffalo, Fitzpatrick played in 55 games, throwing for 11,654 yards, 80 touchdowns, and 64 interceptions.

In addition to playing for the Bills, Fitzpatrick has been a true journeyman, playing for nine teams in his NFL career. He spent two years with the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, St. Louis Rams, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also played one season for the Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans, and Washington.

If Fitzpatrick is on a roster next year, it will be his age-40 season. The former seventh round pick has made a solid career for himself in the NFL after playing collegiately at Harvard.

Fitzpatrick’s injury was disappointing for Washington this season

While it was freezing cold, Fitzpatrick saw the Bills have a lot of success on Saturday. Buffalo cruised to a 47-17 victory over New England.

The Washington Football Team has been searching for a franchise quarterback for some time now. Washington selected Robert Griffin III second overall in 2012, and he played three seasons before injuries derailed his career. Then, it was Kirk Cousins’ time to shine. Cousins was selected in the same draft as Griffin, and he started from 2015-2017. After that year, Cousins left in free agency for the Minnesota Vikings.

Since Cousins left, Washington has had a revolving door of quarterbacks. Ten different quarterbacks have started at least one game over the last four seasons. Fitzpatrick was expected to be a one-year stopgap at quarterback as Washington sorted out its long term future at the position. Instead, Taylor Henicke started 15 games, and he saw mixed results. Now, Washington enters the offseason with even more questions at quarterback.

While Fitzpatrick was in Buffalo for the Bills playoff game on Saturday, he has still failed to make the playoffs as a quarterback in the NFL.
