Full contract details revealed for Donovan Wilson, Dallas Cowboys
Tuesday was a big day for the Dallas Cowboys secondary, getting multiple deals done. The first of which was safety Donovan Wilson, bringing the starter back in free agency. He signed a three-year, $21 million contract and will continue to play under defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
Further details of the contract have been released by Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston. $13.5 million will be guaranteed, while Wilson will have the opportunity to earn “per game active roster” bonuses throughout all three seasons in Dallas.
Barring injury, the Cowboys plan to have Wilson on the field. He has been a key piece of the defensive puzzle over the past few years and will continue to do so. A well-deserved contract for the safety.
Wilson was a late-round find for the Cowboys, being selected in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M. He has played well past his value, continually proving to be one of the best members of the secondary over the past four seasons.
Now, the time to cash in has come and Wilson was able to do so. Staying home and continuing to play near his hometown of Shreveport, LA has to help the cause as well. Now, the goal will be to get wins on the field with the Cowboys.
Dallas Cowboys, Donovan Wilson agree to three-year deal
Dallas has come to an agreement with Wilson this week, who has served as the franchise’s starting safety. The 2022 leading tackler will be back for 2023 after agreeing to a three-year deal worth up to $24 million before he hit the free-agent market.

Wilson’s new deal includes a fully guaranteed salary for the first two years, worth up to $13.5 million, according to Mike Garafolo.
Wilson, drafted in the sixth round in 2019 out of Texas A&M, was playing on a four-year, $2.65 million rookie deal. The 27-year-old former Aggie posted a career-high 101 tackles this season for Dallas. He also had five sacks, two forced fumbles, a recovery, and one interception.
During Dallas’s postseason run, Wilson had an additional 20 tackles, including a tackle for loss.
After finishing third on the defense in tackles in 2020, Wilson had shoulder and groin injuries that made him miss eight games in 2021.
During his time at Texas A&M, the Cowboys defender was a team captain and team leader in interceptions. He is a Shreveport, Louisiana native.
