Sammy Watkins has found yet another new NFL home as the Green Bay Packers’ general manager Brian Gunekust officially announced the signing of the former Clemson Tigers star, who was originally drafted as the No. 4 overall selection in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

On Thursday morning, news broke that the dynamic slot receiver—who can be utilized in multiple ways due to his versatility — had inked a deal with the Packers. Now the Pack have added another weapon for Aaron Rodgers who recently lost his go-to trusted pass catcher when Davante Adams was traded to the Raiders nearly one month ago.

“Breaking: Sammy Watkins is signing a one-year deal w the #Packers, per source,” tweeted Jordan Schultz.

Earlier on Thursday, it was reported the Clemson Tigers’ legend was traveling to Green Bay for a visit with the historic franchise. Evidently, the two sides liked what the other had to say, and an agreement was reached.

Additionally, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero provided the details of the star wide receiver’s contract in Green Bay.

“It’s a one-year, $4 million deal for Sammy Watkins with the #Packers, per source,” tweeted Pelissero.

After beginning his career with the Buffalo Bills, Watkins has been a a key member of some of the top teams in the NFL. His biggest accomplishment remains helping the Kansas City Chiefs find victory in Super Bowl LIV.

As Watkins looks to continue his NFL career and the Packers look to fill some holes, the duo makes a solid match. A deal in Green Bay for the former Clemson star wide receiver was worked up in quick fashion, and the duo hopes the relationship will prove fruitful.

The ninth-year NFL veteran has played in 99 career regular-season games with 91 starts for Buffalo (2014-16), the Los Angeles Rams (2017), Kansas City Chiefs (2018-20) and Baltimore Ravens (2021), posting 348 career receptions for 5,059 yards (14.5 avg) and 34 TDs. Watkins has started six of the seven postseason contests he has played in, recording 26 receptions for 500 yards (19.2 avg) and a TD.

Since 2014, Sammy Watkins ranks No. 7 in yards per reception among NFL players with 300 or more catches. He is one of five wide receivers in the league with 300-plus receptions, 5,000-plus receiving yards, 30-plus receiving TDs and an average of 14.5-plus yards per catch since 2014. While with Kansas City (2018-20), he was part of a team that won three consecutive AFC West titles, went to three straight AFC Championship games and made back-to-back Super Bowl appearances (2019-20), winning the title in 2019. Watkins’ 125 catches and 2,029 yards from 2014-15 were the most ever by a Bills player in their first two NFL seasons. He will wear No. 11 for the Packers.
