WATCH: Scary moment at the Coca-Cola 600 after Chris Buescher flips several times

On a day full of car wrecks, the Coca-Cola 600 saw a scary moment unfold as Chris Buescher flipped his car multiple times after a slide. Luckily, Buescher appeared to be safe within the vehicle, despite it landing upside-down and requiring a truck to lift the vehicle right-side up. While NASCAR’s safety team managed the situation, the crowd was able to cheer for Buescher as he left the vehicle safely.

Chris Buescher flips five times

In what can only be described as a freak accident in the way that Buescher’s car was affected, Daniel Suarez in the 99 car was bumped and narrowly avoided hitting the wall to start the wreck. As Suarez was left sideways and helpless in the middle of the track, Buescher was attempting to avoid hitting him and went sideways as well. The pair made significant contact, but the real danger began when both cars slid on the turf inside the track.

As Buescher skidded, his suspension appeared to snap and caused his front-right tire to buckle underneath his car. The tire caught something and made a wedge into the ground, sending Buescher flipping over five times before coming to a rest with the wrong side up.

The NASCAR safety team worked quickly to check on Buescher as he remained stuck in the car, eventually determining it was safe to bring a truck with a crane lift to flip him back over. The crew carefully picked the car up and set it on its (remaining) tires, and Buescher safely left the car under his own power.

Afterwards, the broadcast team examined the wreck from multiple different angles, including one from the driver camera inside of Suarez’s vehicle — catching his facial expressions as he realized a fellow driver was going end-over-end before him. Both drivers appeared to suffer no major injuries from the incident. They were the 14th and 15th cars to be put out of commission during the 400-mile race.
