Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith took to Twitter on Monday night to request a grace period from fans after a suspected DUI arrest this weekend.

“Being arrested brings a taint onto the reputation that is impossible to undo, no matter what really happened,” Smith wrote. “I’m asking all of you to hold back on judging me the same as you would do for a friend or family member.”

The former West Virginia star added that he plans to share more on the early Monday morning incident “down the road.”

“I’ll have more to say down the road & ask that you bare with me,” Smith tweeted.

Seattle head coach Pete Carroll told the media that Smith participated in end-of-season meetings on Monday.

“I checked in with him. We have to let his people handle all that,” Carroll said. “He was in the [team] meeting today with us. I don’t have anything other than that to give to you on that.”

Geno Smith arrested

Law enforcement arrested Seahawks backup quarterback Geno Smith under suspicion of driving under the influence after the team’s win in Arizona. Authorities arrested backup quarterback Geno Smith at 2:10 a.m. by the Washington State Patrol and released later that morning.

“Geno is fully cooperative with the investigation. I hope that an open mind can be kept by all as the facts are ascertained,” Smith’s attorney Jon Fox said in a statement.

TMZ added that police initially pulled 31-year-old Smith over for speeding.

Smith has spent three seasons with the Seahawks and was the go-to replacement for Russell Wilson this season when he was out due to finger surgery. Smith’s 2021 season saw him throw for 702 yards and five touchdowns and only one interception.

The eight-year veteran from West Virginia began his career with the New York Jets going in the second round of the NFL draft. Smith is currently finishing a one-year contract with Seattle and will be a free agent for the 2022 NFL season.
