Former Virginia Tech star Terrell Edmunds is expected to re-sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers on a one year deal, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Barring a major change of plans, the four-year starter will be back in the Steel City as the franchise approaches the 2022 NFL Draft. He’s been highly productive during his four seasons with the Steelers, racking up 340 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and five interceptions. The standout safety is coming off what was his best all-around season thus far in the NFL.

Last year, he tallied 89 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and two interceptions for the Steelers. The former Hokie standout has always been a sure tackler throughout his football career dating back to his college days. Coming out of Virginia Tech, he only missed five tackles in 585 snaps during the 2017 season, per Pro Football Focus. One of his best games in the 2017-2018 season came against the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens, when he racked up eight tackles, one sack, and one interception. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound safety was also named third team All-ACC in 2017.

There were rumblings this month that the Steelers had interest in free agent safety Tyrann Mathieu. Edmunds’ return might indicate Mathieu is possibly going to sign elsewhere before the 2022-2023 season.

According to the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2014 class, Edmunds was rated as a three-star prospect and the No. 103 safety prospect in America. His senior season for Dan River High (Danville, Virginia), he was named a second-team 2A all-state selection by VirginiaPreps at the running back position. Edmunds posted big-time numbers his senior year, shredding opposing defenses to the tune of 1,753 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns on 171 carries. His career-high in rushing yardage came against Martinsville–when he ran for 344 rushing yards and five touchdowns in a 32-28 victory.
