Titans designate Derrick Henry for return from IR

After Tuesday’s report, the Tennessee Titans have, in fact, designated star running back Derrick Henry for a return to the practice field. Henry has been on the injured reserve list for two months.

After suffering a fractured foot in a Halloween win over the Indianapolis Colts, Henry underwent surgery days later. Now, the former Alabama champion is getting back on the field for the Titans just in time for the playoffs. The Titans have a 21-day window to activate him for play.

Cameron Wolfe of the NFL Network first reported that Henry will practice on Wednesday.

“Titans are expecting star RB Derrick Henry to be at practice tomorrow, I’m told, setting the stage for a playoff return. He’s been ramping up toward this,” Wolfe wrote on Twitter.

Prior to his injury, Henry – the former Heisman – was having a strong season for the Titans. He rushed for 937 yards and 10 touchdowns on 219 carries. He tallied 28 carries for 68 yards against the Colts on Oct. 31 – his last time out.

In 2020, Henry earned the AP’s NFL Offensive Player of the Year after rushing 378 times for 2,027 yards and 17 touchdowns. Henry became just the eighth player in NFL history to hit the 2,000-yard mark in 2020.

The Titans are currently 11-5 overall and coming off a dominant 34-3 win over the Miami Dolphins – a victory that clinched the AFC South and put them in the AFC’s No. 1 spot. Tennessee will conclude its regular season on Sunday on the road against the Houston Texas (4-12). The kickoff is at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.

Titans player charged with assault after Walgreens incident

Tennessee Titans outside linebacker Bud Dupree has been charged with misdemeanor assault after an incident with a Walgreens employee in Nashville last weekend, according to police.

The altercation occurred Sunday night, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department. Dupree allegedly grabbed a 20-year-old male employee and his phone before another altercation before he left the store.

“Due to the victim being assaulted, the defendant is being charged with assault-fear of bodily injury,” the police said in a statement, via ESPN.

The employee had a cut on his forehead and a female employee suffered a cut on her hand, according to The Tennesseean. The Titans issued a statement saying they “are aware of the situation and are gathering additional information.”

Dupree played college football at Kentucky before going No. 22 overall to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2015. He played for the Steelers from 2015-20 before signing with the Titans prior to this season.

Prior to this season, Dupree inked a five-year deal worth $82.5 million. In five games this year, he has 14 tackles and a forced fumble in 10 games, including five starts.
