Vanderbilt vs. Tennessee, a Top-15 ranked series within the SEC, has had its rubber match delayed during the sixth inning for about two hours now due to a rain delay with the weather in Knoxville. Now, the Volunteers have released when they’ll be returning to the field this evening.

Per an announcement by the program, Tennessee and Vanderbilt will resume at 7 p.m. EST/6 p.m. CT on ESPNews. Gates for fans in attendance at Lindsey Nelson Stadium will re-open 20 minutes before that then at 6:40 p.m. EST/5:40 p.m. CT.

Update: First pitch has been moved back again slightly to 7:10 p.m. EST/6 p.m. CT.

Vanderbilt vs. Tennessee are split at 1-1 in their series so far with the Vols winning 3-2 on Friday before Vandy responded with a 10-6 win on Saturday. That makes this a key game considering these two teams are tied in the conference at 15-11 ahead of the final weekend of the regular season next week. It’s also important with these two teams also playing for seeding in the 2025 NCAA Baseball Tournament as Tennessee is at 39-12 and Vanderbilt is at 35-16.

“Punches thrown back and forth. Last night, tonight, really good plays defensively. We’ve seen some guys that could pitch in the big leagues tomorrow, on both sides, both lineups,” Tony Vitello said of this series so far. “Now both teams should be relatively familiar with. I mean, both of us have the capability of maybe altering a guy or two, but you show up to the park, you have fun during pregame, and no reason to stop having fun. It’s baseball. You have fun during the game, but obviously it’s a competition at the highest level where, you’re trying to finish the weekend on Sunday. That’s why Sunday is an important day. And see what we get.”

This final game could determine a lot as far as seeds as for two weeks from now in Hoover or in who can host a Regional or Super Regional come the NCAAs. That leaves what’s left of four inning on Rocky Top to determine a series winner here in-state with Vanderbilt currently up at 5-3 over the home team in Tennessee.
