Tiger Woods on finishing PGA Championship on Sunday: 'Well, I'm sore'

Seeing Tiger Woods make back-to-back cuts after his car accident a year ago is quite an accomplishment. But the question now is whether or not he’ll finish back-to-back tournaments.

Woods said he was “sore” as he walked off after the third round of the PGA Championship on Saturday. He shot 9-over for the round, taking him to 12-over through three days of the tournament at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He declined an on-camera interview with CBS, but sounded undecided about playing in the final round in off-camera comments.

“Well, I’m sore,” Woods said, via the PGA Tour’s Twitter page. “I know that is for a fact. We’ll do some work and see how it goes.”

Woods made his return to the PGA Tour last month at The Masters — his first tour event since a February 2021 car accident nearly took his leg. He shot 13-over in Augusta, including a 6-over in the final round. Afterward, he also confirmed he’d also play in the British Open, which is at Saint Andrew’s in Scotland in July. Woods said it’s his favorite course, which is why he’s going to do his best to play in that event.

Mito Periera, Will Zalatoris jockeying for the lead at the PGA Championship

Will Zalatoris entered Saturday’s third round as the PGA Championship leader, but Mito Pereira rode a hot start through the first six holes to leap-frog him for the top spot. He was 10-under through his first six holes while Zalatoris sat four shots back through seven holes at 6-under. Bubba Watson drained a long putt for birdie on his seventh hole to move into a second-place tie with Zalatoris.

The PGA Championship is the second major on the PGA Tour calendar. Next up is the U.S. Open at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, before The Open Championship closes things out in July.
