Tim Tebow announces Jacksonville Jaguars have cut him
Tim Tebow’s attempt to make the Jacksonville Jaguars as a tight end is now over. Adam Schefter reported Tuesday morning that the Jaguars have released the former Florida Gators quarterback from their roster. The news of the Jaguars cutting Tebow comes after just one preseason game.
Tebow tweets response to the news
Tebow tweeted a message following the news of his release.
“Thankful for the highs and even the lows, the opportunities, and the setbacks,” Tebow tweeted. “I’ve never wanted to make decisions out of fear of failure and I’m grateful for the chance to have pursued a dream. Thank you to the Jaguars organization and everyone who has supported me in this journey. And we know that…God works all things together for good. Romans 8:28″
Tebow was facing an uphill battle in his quest to complete his NFL comeback as a tight end. He is among five players to be cut by the Jaguars to get to the 85-player limit Tuesday. Cornerback DJ Daniel and receivers Josh Imatorbhebhe and Tim Jones were cut along with Tebow. Tebow saw 16 offensive snaps and did not appear on special teams in his lone game before being cut.
A video of an unconventional block attempt by Tebow in Jacksonville’s first preseason game recently went viral. Tebow lines up behind the left side of the offensive line and moves right following the snap. He then lunges himself at the defender to try and take him out of the play. While the block attempt ultimately kept the defender away from the ball, Tebow was the one who ended up on the ground on the play, prompting ridicule across social media.

This was not the first time that Tebow experimented with either a new position or sport since his career as a quarterback came to an end. He played minor league baseball from 2016-2019, making it as high as triple-A in the New York Mets’ organization.
