Titans promote running back Adrian Peterson to active roster
The Tennessee Titans have promoted Adrian Peterson from the practice squad to the active roster in time for their Sunday matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
The move comes after the league’s leading rusher, Titans star running back Derrick Henry, suffered a season-ending foot injury against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
The Titans will see how much juice Peterson has left in the tank. While he’s run for over 14,000 yards in his highly decorated NFL career, he last ran for over 600 yards with the Detroit Lions last year. Peterson is currently 36 years old.
Adrian Peterson stats
Peterson last rushed for over 1,000 yards in 2018 for Washington. That year, he rushed 251 times for 1,042 yards and seven touchdowns. Peterson posted a historic stat line in 2012, rushing for over 2,000 yards on his way to a MVP award. The former Oklahoma star has run for at least seven touchdowns in every full season that he has played in the NFL.
One fun fact: he is currently only 449 rushing yards away from fourth all-time on the NFL’s all-time rushing list and he would pass Barry Sanders if he could get to that mark.
During the prime of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings–he proved himself as one of the game’s all-time greats when he rushed for 296 rushing yards.

While at Oklahoma, Peterson established himself as one of the best players in college football history. During his storied career with the Sooners, Peterson had 748 carries for 4,041 rushing yards, while racking up 41 rushing touchdowns. He did all of that in just three seasons in Norman. His junior season was cut short due to a broken collarbone he suffered on Oct. 15, 2006. The injury ended his season.
Jeremy McNichols
The other running back in the Titans backfield will be Jeremy McNichols, a former standout at Boise State. The 25-year-old running back has just seven carries for 38 yards this season, but is expected to get much more work with Henry done for the season.
As a pass catching back this season, McNichols has filled in nicely, hauling in 21 catches for 203 receiving yards and one touchdown.
The Tennessee Titans face off against the LA Rams on Sunday Night Football. Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. EST.
