Tom Brady made it short and sweet when he decided to retire from the NFL for good.

The future Hall of Famer has a broadcasting gig with FOX on deck. However, Brady said he won’t begin until the 2024 season.

On Monday, Brady joined The Herd with Colin Cowherd and opened up on his decision to retire from the NFL in more detail.

“I think for me, I know in my heart, how I feel,” Brady said. “I put it out on the field for 23 years and I’m super proud of you know, what’s been accomplished. And you know, I just wanted to keep last week really short and sweet. And I felt like I’ve given a lot, I’ve gained a lot, I’ve learned a lot. Life is about exciting things ahead, too. So I think when one thing closes like football has for me for 32 years of my life and you know, I look forward to what’s ahead.

“There’s new chapters and there’s new exciting things and there’s new growth, there’s new opportunities, and I’m really excited for what’s ahead. So you know, I loved my time in football, absolutely. An incredible love in my life, and it’s hard to make decisions like that, but it’s certainly the right time.”

Cowherd asked Brady where he was when the lightbulb went off. Brady said it culminated within the last week.

“I think the finality of it was just last week,” Brady said. “So you always kind of think the future is very hard to predict for all of us. I mean, nothing’s really guaranteed. But I think you just take it day by day. And as my friend always tells me the future happens a day at a time. But I’m super excited. I really am. I think there’s a lot of great things ahead. And I think you need to create space for those things too. When one thing ends, naturally other opportunities present themselves.

“I don’t try to make predictions and sometimes I’m really good with certainty. And I think in this case, I’m good with a little bit of uncertainty even though I have some great opportunities in my professional life ahead. I’m really excited about those things. You know, at the same time, you got to create space for those things as well.”
