For many golfing fans around the country, they probably had no idea who Tom Kim was before late Thursday evening in the PGA Championship. Rest assured, after Thursday night, the man became a social media sensation after his hilarious golf shot.

Kim fell in the mud after hitting one of his shots, and he came up absolutely caked in mud. It was quite a hilarious sight to see. Then, after he was covered in mud, he decided to lie down in the creek for a bit to rinse himself off.

Absolute legend! Check out the video below.

As you can see from above, the man was absolutely covered in mud from head to toe. That’s dedication, ladies and gents. And he set Twitter ablaze on Thursday evening. Golf fans on social media simply couldn’t get enough and you can’t blame them. It’s one of the more hilarious events to ever occur in a major.

Following the round, Kim took some time to talk about falling in the mud with ESPN.

He finished his round at 3-over par after the first day. He currently sits at T63, so Kim will have some work to do if he wants to make it to the weekend at Oak Hill. The course played extremely difficult on the first day.

Kim is from South Korea and while he wasn’t that well known on Thursday, his celebrity status just jumped another level after he was trending on Twitter. His full Korean name is Kim Joo-hyung, but he’s commonly known as Tom Kim. He got the name Tom from Thomas the Tank Engine.

He’s already had two wins thus far on the PGA Tour: the 2022 Wyndham Championship and the 2022 Shriner’s Children’s Open. Kim has also finished in the Top 25 in two different majors (Masters T16, 2023, U.S. Open 23rd, 2022).

He’s definitely not as well-known yet as another Korean player, Si Woo Kim. But falling the mud certainly helped. There’s no denying Tom Kim’s talent. The 61 he shot in the final round of the Wyndham Championship was the lowest final round by a PGA Tour player in their debut victory since Smylie Kaufman shot a 61 in the 2015 Shriner’s Children’s Open.

In the British Open, Kim also made the cut and finished T47 in 2022. Before joining the PGA Tour in the 2022-2023 season, he played on the Asian Development Tour and the Philippine Golf Tour.
