The Cowboys will be without Tony Pollard today when they take on the Washington Football Team. According to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer, the Dallas running back is unavailable to play.

“No Tony Pollard today for the Cowboys,” tweeted Glazer.

Unfortunately, the Cowboys playmaker won’t be there to help the team attempt to add some cushion to their NFC East lead. Now, Ezekiel Elliott and newly-elevated JaQuan Hardy will be their backfield options.

It’s not a surprise to Dallas that Pollard won’t be on the field, as the Cowboys have been preparing for the inevitable. According to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys already elevated Hardy as their contingency plan.

“Cowboys are preparing to be without RB Tony Pollard (foot) on Sunday at Washington,” Gehlken tweeted on Saturday. “He tore his plantar fascia last week at Saints, missing entire practice week. Pollard said he’s a game-time decision, but RB JaQuan Hardy been elevated from practice squad as likely contingency.”

Without Tony Pollard, the Cowboys will have to replace the exciting offense he added to their team. It was going to be a tough showdown already — now, it looks like we’ll see a full-fledged battle in Washington.

More on Dallas Cowboys at Washington Football Team

Prior to a couple weeks ago, Sunday’s showdown between the Washington Football Team and Dallas Cowboys seemed meaningless. Apart from the juiciness of an age-old rivalry, the two NFC East foes seemed to be going in different directions.

However, both Washington and the Cowboys have gone in different directions over the last month. Now, just two games separate the teams in the standings. Adding to the drama, both squads face-off against each-other twice in December.

As you can tell, the NFC East could begin to be decided on Sunday. A Cowboys victory would give them a huge leg up over Washington, while a victory for the Football Team would bring Dallas within striking distance.

Washington is on a tremendous winning streak at the moment. After shocking Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Ron Rivera’s squad has defeated the Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks and Las Vegas Raiders.

On the other hand, the Cowboys have been stuck in their own inconsistencies. After dismantling the Atlanta Falcons, they were handled soundly by the Kansas City Chiefs. Afterwards, the Las Vegas Raiders ruined Thanksgiving — spoiling Jerry Jones’ Turkey Day. However, they may have turned a corner — taking care of business against the New Orleans Saints.
