Miami Dolphins starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been dealt another tough break injury wise. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Tagovailoa will miss Sunday’s game against the Texans with a fracture in one of his fingers on his throwing hand.
“Dolphins’ QB Tua Tagovailoa has a small fracture in the middle finger of his throwing hand that has not recovered enough to allow him to start today’s game against the Texans, per league sources,” Schefter said. “Jacoby Brissett now is expected to be the Dolphins’ starting QB today, per source.”
With Dolphins’ third-string quarterback Reid Sinnett recently being lost on waivers, Miami does not have any other quarterbacks on the roster. Tagovailoa will still back Brissett up on Sunday, according to Schefter on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown.
Tagovailoa is not expected to be out long term for the Dolphins
While Tagovailoa will be out on Sunday, the Dolphins don’t expect him to miss significant time. The fracture on his middle finger on his throwing hand could keep him out next week, though, as the Dolphins play the Ravens on Thursday Night Football.

“Tua Tagovailoa’s fractured middle finger is not expected to keep him out long-term,” Schefter said. “However, with a quick turnaround for Thursday Night Football this week, his status for Week 10 against the Ravens now also is in question.”
The tough injury luck continues for Tagovailoa. He has only played in five games this season, and he left with another injury just four throws in during Week 2. On the season, Tagovailoa has thrown for 1,040 yards, seven touchdowns, and five interceptions while completing 65.6 percent of his passes. With Tagovailoa out, Dolphins backup Jacoby Brissett has thrown for 883 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions.
The Dolphins enter the weekend with a 1-7 record, sitting at the bottom of the AFC East. Miami’s bye week does not come until Week 14.
