Uncommitted senior Angel Montas updates recruitment
Angel Montas arrived from the Dominican Republic three years ago and now plays at Life Christian Academy in Kissimmee, Fla. At 6-foot-6 and 215 pounds, Montas is a strong, big-bodied guard who is nearly unstoppable heading to the rim. Best as a slasher, he’s also shown the ability to handle the ball, make a move to get the defender off balance, and knock down the jumper. He also brings his energy over to the defensive end.
College coaches have started to take notice and he’s racked in offers from Tennessee, Illinois, SMU, Dayton, Fordham, Iona, and others. South Carolina and Boston College have both started to show interest. Whoever lands Angel Montas is getting a competitor.
The senior guard-forward has taken a pair of official visits to Iona and Fordham and discussed both trips.
Iona: “It was good. I got to see a lot of good people, you know met a lot of good people. They really like basketball and practice a lot. Coach (Rick) Pitino is a Hall-of-Fame coach.”

Fordham: “It was good. They know me like they know my game. They put in a lot of effort to get me there. The visit was pretty cool because a lot of the coaching staff is Dominican. So they were pretty excited. It was a good time.”
Montas doesn’t know what other schools he would like to visit, as he’s currently focused on his high school season.
Tennesse is Montas’ one and only SEC offer. What was it like for him to receive an offer from the Vols? “It was good. A lot of my work is paying off. I’ve put so much effort into this game. It was pretty cool and I was super proud of myself.”
