Updated Top 25 running back recruits in the On3 Industry Ranking
Through early August, a whopping 45 of the top 50 running back recruits in the On3 Industry Ranking have already found a home at the next level.
Of the five top-50 running backs not yet committed to a college, three rank inside the top 25.
With senior year for the class of 2025 right around the corner, here are the current top 25 running backs in the On3 Industry Ranking.
1. 5-star Harlem Berry — LSU
School: Metairie (La.) St. Martin’s Episcopal
On3 Industry Ranking: N. 16 NATL.
Scouting Summary: “The most electric running back in the 2025 cycle, with the ability to be a game-changer in the passing game. Possesses elite burst and effortless movement skills. Measured in at 5-foot-10, 182 pounds at the On3 Elite Series prior to his senior season. . Transfers his outstanding top-end speed onto the field in a functional way. A threat to take it to the house on any touch. A light, springy mover who shifts gears and changes directions at full speed. Displays outstanding vision. Reads blocks and bursts through the line to the second level. The game moves slow for him at the prep level. Runs through contact and shows balance that belies his size. Showcased advanced pass-catching skills during the summer prior to his senior season. Has the skill level to legitimately line up at receiver. A massive mismatch out of the backfield when covered by linebackers. Registers as a high-end athlete with elite speed on the track and in the combine setting.
“Won state titles in the 100 and 200 meters as a sophomore with times of 10.57 seconds and 21.43 seconds, respectively. Highly productive over his high school career. Rushed for 2,080 yards and 37 touchdowns on 13.2 yards per carry as a junior. Has a smaller frame and will need to continue adding good mass in order to carry a substantial load at the next level. Ceiling as a true every-down back will be determined by his ability to put on weight while maintaining his athleticism. Has a later birthday for the cycle, turning 17 years old in late May of his junior year.”
2. 4-star Akylin Dear — Uncommitted
School: Quitman (Miss.)
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 36 NATL.
Scouting Summary: “Tough, skilled runner with a well-rounded skill set for the position. Has plus size, measuring in at around 6-foot, 205 pounds prior to his senior season. Should be able to easily carry 215+ pounds at the next level. A good athlete in the combine setting. A bell cow back on Friday nights as a junior. Displays advanced vision in working between the tackles. Runs with patience, setting up his blocks. Able to change tempo and quickly change gears. Shows a nice burst in accelerating to hit holes as they appear. Comfortable in working within confined spaces. Doesn’t hesitate in getting north-south. Displays outstanding contact balance. Runs through arm tackles and spins out of contact. Strong on contact and plays with a physical edge.
“A solid pass catcher. Saw an uptick in his production as a junior, rushing for over 2,000 yards and 27 touchdowns. Ran track as a sophomore, posting a personal best of 11.20 seconds in the 100 meters. Has some tightness in his lower body that can shorten his stride in the open field, affecting his top gear and long speed. Improvement on that front would improve his ability to pull away at the college level. Has a high floor as an every down back given his well-rounded skill set and looks to be one of the top runners in the 2025 cycle.”
3. 4-star Gideon Davidson — Clemson
School: Lynchburg (Va.) Liberty Christian
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 72 NATL.
Scouting Summary: “Crafty runner with outstanding vision and spatial awareness. Measured at 5-foot-11..25, 202 pounds at the On3 Elite Series prior to his senior season. Added good mass to his frame as a junior. Had a monster junior season while leading Liberty Christian to a state title. Rushed for 2,716 yards and 43 touchdowns at 12.9 yards per carry. Shows advanced vision. Sets up his blocks and plays with spectacular timing with his offensive line. Patient and unhurried when picking his way through confined areas. Sifts through traffic as a runner between the tackles. A very efficient runner with little wasted movement, always seeking to get north-south.
“Sets up defenders in space and understands angles. Uses his off hand to disarm tackle attempts. Solid speed, but doesn’t have an overwhelming initial burst or top gear. Doesn’t play good competition and will almost always win the footrace once in the open field, adding to his gaudy stats. A bit older for the cycle, turning 18 years-old in May of his junior year. Will need to continue developing physically and athletically, but has the requisite skill set to be a productive ball carrier at the Power 4 level.”
4. 4-star Ousmane Kromah — Uncommitted
School: Leesburg (Ga.) Lee County
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 114 NATL.
Scouting Summary: “True every down back with an extremely well-rounded skill set. Has readymade size, checking in at 6-foot-0.5 and around 215 pounds prior to his junior season. Has a unique build with very long arms and a bow-legged gait. A productive workhorse for one of the top high school programs in south Georgia. Averaged over 160 rushing yards per game as a sophomore and junior and 10 yards per carry as a junior. An extremely tough runner who is very difficult to bring down on contact. Trucks and carries defenders at the second level. Not going down with an arm tackle. Shows good burst and play speed and is capable of ripping off long runs with regularity.
“A plus receiver and one of the more natural pass-catchers among high school running back prospects. Even splits out to receiver on passing downs for his high school. A big-time mismatch in the passing game and already runs routes at a high level. Doubles as a good basketball player averaging over 10 points per game as a sophomore for a team that made a deep run in the state playoffs. Older for the class, turning 18 years-old in December of his junior year. Though he projects as one of the top running backs in the 2025 cycle, has the potential to also be a star at other spots.”
5. 4-star Anthony Rogers — Alabama
School: Montgomery (Ala.) Carver
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 127 NATL.
Scout’s Take: “He starts off with a great burst and is very explosive. He had really good track times during his freshman year, but was also showing off the speed on the field- that’s what’s most important when evaluating a running back. He has a compact built- sturdy at his height. He showed game-breaking ability as a freshman. We saw him do even more as a sophomore when he averaged 8.7 yards per carry. He is really fast in the first 10 yards. You see that on the field.
“He has really good contact balance and plays with a low center of gravity. He has good vision and runs through arm tackles. He can take on a bigger load and not just be a complimentary speed piece to an offense.”
6. 4-star Jordon Davison — Oregon
School: Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 137 NATL.
ScoopDuck Take: “Davison shows great vision, balance and body control, picking and sliding his way through the defense and not being reliant on his size and power. He’s a bigger running back but his run skills and style are very balanced. He’s a creative runner that has good long speed to turn a broken tackle into a TD.
“For a bigger back, Davison shows multiple speeds and the wiggle/bend to snap runs back across the grain and create explosives. His ability to break tackles, make guys miss and steal yardage on broken plays make him a guy that I think contributes early in his career.”
7. 4-star Michael Turner — Baylor
School: North Richland Hills (Texas) Richland
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 144 NATL.
Scout’s Take from Dallas Under Armour Next: “The running back position is one of the tougher position groups to shine in during camps and events like this, but Michael Turner stood out in a big way on Sunday afternoon. The Richland (TX) product has excellent size for the position and possesses smooth movement skills and footwork when going through bag drills. He showed great burst and wiggle during the individual period as well as soft hands and natural ball-tracking skills. But it was the 1-on-1 period where we really got to see him display his dominant route-running ability and natural hands at the catch point. He was consistently able to separate from defenders and made multiple contested catches throughout the afternoon. Turner is a complete back who proved that not only is he a threat between the tackles, but a true weapon in the passing game as well.”
8. 4-star Alvin Henderson — Auburn
School: Elba (Ala.)
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 153 NATL.
Scout’s Take: “Alvin Henderson is the most productive of the top running back prospects in this cycle coming out of his junior season. He plays at a lower level in Alabama, but he is utterly dominant against that competition, as you would expect from a blue-chip prospect. As a junior, he ran for over 3,500 yards and 61 touchdowns at 15.7 yards per carry. I think he’ll probably go down as one of the top rushers in the state of Alabama’s history and he may even register on some national record books. That’s one thing that is apparent pretty quickly when you’re looking at him as a prospect. He just dominates his competition.”
9. 4-star Dierre Hill — Oregon
School: Belleville (Ill.) Althoff Catholic
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 158 NATL.
ScoopDuck Take: “While elite straight-line speed is great and can lead to explosive plays circumstantially, the reason Hill is going to be such a big-play back is because he can create the explosive on his own. His run style will accentuate blocks and his 3D spatial awareness will be setting up future blocks that haven’t even fully developed. Guys with the elite run instincts are so fun to watch because when you watch plays back you can see him setting up second and third-level defenders for moves and blocks 3-4 steps before it’s time to make it. Being fast doesn’t do much good if you can’t navigate your way to the open grass to show it off. Dierre is elite in this regard.”
10. 4-star Marquise Davis — Kentucky
School: Cleveland Heights (Ohio)
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 160 NATL.
High school head coach: “He’s gotten a lot faster and stronger. Put that with the toughness he already has and it makes him a pretty dynamic back. . . It’s an ideal system. In my opinion, he’s an SEC-type running back. I just think it’s ideal for him.”
