The Los Angeles Rams and newly acquired linebacker Von Miller have just announced what number he will wear for the rest of the season. Miller will suit up in his number from his time spent in College Station, 40. But acquiring that number required the blessing of Rams great in Hall of Famer Elroy “Crazylegs” Hirsch’s family. The legendary flanker wore the number 40 during his NFL career and had the number retired by the Rams.

Hirsch was the legendary flanker (receiver)/ running back for Los Angeles from 1949 to 1957. He finished his NFL career with 387 receptions for 7029 yards and 60 receiving touchdowns. During his time in the league, he broke several receiving records, including most touchdown receptions in a season (1951) with 17. Hirsch was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1968 and was one of 16 players named to the all-time all-pro team by the Hall of Fame the following year. Sadly Elroy “Crazylegs” Hirsch is no longer with us. He passed away on Jan 28th in 2004.

Miller says goodbye to Denver

In a move that sent shockwaves throughout the NFL, the Broncos traded away their all-pro linebacker to the Rams. And exchange Denver will receive Los Angeles second and third-round picks in the upcoming draft.
Denver Broncos insider reporter Troy Renck Caught up to the now-former Bronco early on Monday after Miller heard the news.

“We’ll always have Super Bowl 50,” said Miller, echoing Renck.

Miller was a part of a dominant Broncos defense that helped capture Super Bowl 50, and in the process, he was named Super Bowl MVP for his efforts. In the 2015 postseason, Miller had 2.5 sacks and an interception off Tom Brady, as the Broncos defeated the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game, then he added 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles against Cam Newton in the Super Bowl, good for MVP honors.

“You know seeing those pictures when I was walking out, it just made me tear up. But We will always got Super Bowl 50, always got Broncos country,” Miller said.

It is a bittersweet goodbye for Denver Bronco fans. But this trade allows Miller to be a part of another Super Bowl run. What’s next for the team is to utilize the pics picked up in the trade and make something of them. But if fans find themselves Sad about his departure, as Miller said, they will always have Super Bowl 50.
