Montgomery (Ala.) Carver five-star EDGE Qua Russaw is one of the top defensive prospects in the 2023 cycle. On Friday night against Wetumpka (Ala.), the pass rusher showed why he is a player to be reckoned with.

Following the snap, Russaw raced towards the line of scrimmage from the linebacker position. Even though the quarterback released a pass, he was on the receiving end of a big hit from Russaw.

Russaw is the No. 19 overall prospect and No. 2 EDGE in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 2 player in Alabama.

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Alabama has a commanding lead for Russaw’s commitment at 73.8%. He has visited Tuscaloosa five times.

RPM was released to the public in December. The On3 engineering group teamed up with Spiny.ai to create the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college.

It factors in machine learning, social sentiment, visits and historical trends. However, expert predictions are still a big piece of the RPM equation.

A 6-foot-2, 235 pound prospect, Russaw has an On3 NIL Valuation of $226K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Qua Russaw On3 Scouting Summary

The following is the On3 Scouting Summary for Qua Russaw:

“Qua Russaw is an elite complement off the edge to interior DLJames Smith on the Montgomery (Ala.) Carver DL. The five-star EDGE is instinctive and takes direct paths to the ball from all over the second level of Carver’s defense. The 6-foot-3, 235-pound Russaw was forced to fight off double-teams from a talented Catholic offensive line, but found ways to beat blocks, seal off running lanes to the outside and also close in on rushes up the middle. Russaw was equally as dynamic as a pass rusher, popping opposing QB Daniel Beale and demonstrating that speed and quickness around the corner to collapse the pocket in a hurry.”
