WATCH: Asante Samuel Jr grabs first career NFL interception
Los Angeles Chargers rookie cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. recorded the first interception of his NFL career against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. The second-round draft pick from Florida State is the son of a well-known NFL name, Asante Samuel, who played 11 years in the NFL himself.
Asante Samuel Jr.’s first interception
The former Florida State star cornerback crossed a big milestone in his NFL career on Sunday with his first interception. It came at a big moment for the Chargers in the first quarter after the Cowboys intercepted the ball already up a touchdown.
On a play seemingly designed for a throw to receiver CeeDee Lamb, Prescott’s pass sailed over his receivers head and right into the arms of Samuel. The Chargers would kick a field goal on the following drive, bringing the score to 7-3 instead of the Cowboys having a chance at going up two touchdowns.
Samuel was drafted in the second round by the Chargers in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Florida State. Samuel led the ACC in passes defended during his 2019 season, and recorded three interceptions his final year before being drafted. Asante Samuel Jr. is the son of 11-year NFL veteran Asante Samuel.

Tony Romo explains Prescott’s bad pass
Former Dallas quarterback Tony Romo reacted with his take on the errant pass, criticizing Prescott’s decision to throw it in the first place.
“That just wasn’t a great throw,” explained Romo on the CBS broadcast. “No one was open. Just a poor decision on that one. He wants that one back.”
After moving from his playing career into the broadcasting booth for NFL games, Romo has gained a reputation as an analyst with plenty of insight from his own career. Fans who enjoy Romo’s style of broadcasting appreciate his ability to criticize decisions made on the football field, even if it’s at the expense of his former team.
