San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle DJ Jones wasn’t fooled by the Rams’ fake field goal attempt Monday night. Jones was watching like a hawk the whole time, waiting for his chance to stop the play.

He did just that, blowing up tight end Kendall Blanton following a 2-yard gain. The play caused a turnover on downs, allowing the 49ers to enter the locker room with a 21-7 advantage.

A former star at Ole Miss, Jones was taken in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL draft. He spent the first two seasons of his college career with East Mississippi Community College, which achieved fame on the Netflix series Last Chance U.

The tackle he made was one of two so far Monday evening, as San Francisco holds a 24-7 lead with 12 minutes remaining.

The 49ers defense has been all over the Rams, forcing two interceptions from quarterback Matthew Stafford. Meanwhile, San Francisco quarterback Jimmy Garroppolo is 15-of-19 for 182 yards and two touchdowns, including one that went to receiver Deebo Samuel in the fourth quarter. The other touchdown pass went to tight end Georgia Kittle, who also has five catches for 50 yards.

Additionally, Samuel ran in a touchdown in the second quarter against the Rams on Monday.

The result of this game is somewhat surprising, as the Rams entered the game with a record of 7-2. The 49ers were a mere 3-5, including 0-4 in their home stadium. They are still well behind the Rams and Cardinals (8-3) in the NFC West standings.

San Francisco has a matchup with Jacksonville awaiting in Week 11. The Jaguars should take a lesson from this game and know not to attempt a fake field goal as long as DJ Jones is on the field.

Meanwhile, the Rams will look to bounce back against Aaron Rodgers and fellow Super Bowl contender Green Bay.
