WATCH: Former Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard's long run
Oklahoma State fans are already extremely familiar with running back Chuba Hubbard. Now the Carolina Panthers know a bit about what the running back can do as well.
Hubbard, selected in the fourth round of the 2020 draft, broke free for a 59-yard scamper all the way to the 20-yard line in the second quarter of a preseason game against the Colts.
The run set up the Panthers’ first touchdown of the game, a 7-yard pass from P.J. Walker to Terrance Marshall. Hubbard converted the 2-point attempt.
Born in Canada, Chuba Hubbard led the FBS with 2,094 rushing yards in 2019. He won the Big 12 offensive player of the year and finished eighth in the Heisman Trophy voting that season. He played only seven games the following year as he opted out after Oklahoma State’s loss to Oklahoma.
He joins a Panthers team that already has one of the top running backs in the league in Christian McCaffrey. The former Stanford player saw action in just three games last season because of injuries. If he struggles to stay healthy again, Chuba Hubbard could find himself in a much larger role.

Reggie Bonnafon is listed at No. 2 on the depth chart, with Hubbard right behind him. If he continues to make plays like he did Saturday, it would be no surprise at all to see him climb the ladder.
The Panthers finished 5-11 and missed the playoffs this past season. They added quarterback Sam Darnold in free agency and could be a contender in the NFC South behind Tampa Bay. The Saints (Drew Brees) and Falcons (Julio Jones) both lost key players this offseason.
Chuba Hubbard was the eighth running back taken off the board in the 2020 draft. It might be too early to say the Panthers got a steal, but they have to be pleased with his preseason performance.
