The Steelers defense prides itself on its toughness and Fitzpatrick gave Fields a first-hand look at their skill. On a third-and-nine play on the drive immediately after Fields was intercepted by defensive lineman Cameron Heyward, the pocket collapsed again under the pass rush and Fields scrambled to the outside.
Fitzpatrick met Fields about three yards short of the first down and punished the rookie for trying to make a play with his feet.
The Steelers held the Bears to 61 yards on their first five drives of the game, forcing the Bears to punt four times. Another Bears drive ended with an interception, while the final drive of the half finally saw Chicago move the ball and end the quarter with a field goal.

Big first half for Steelers defense
Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward intercepted a pass from Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields in the first quarter on Monday night. The interception was the second of the All-Pro’s career, and led to another Steelers touchdown to give his team the lead 14-0 early.
On a simple four-man pass rush by the Steelers, Heyward got his hands up to deflect the pass at the moment of release and found himself able to hold onto the ball. As he was wrestled to the ground, he managed to secure the football and snag the second interception of his career.
The Steelers’ defense started out hot on Monday night as they forced two three-and-out drives to open the game. Heyward’s interception came on the fifth play of the Bears’ third drive, and helped them end the quarter in a dominant fashion.
