Pat Freiermuth has become a fan favorite throughout his rookie season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Using his hard-nose playing and smooth hands, he’s evoking memories of great Steelers tight end Heath Miller.
In what figures to be his final season, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has utilized his new found weapon at tight end. In an interview posted by Steelers Live on Twitter, Friermuth detailed his relationship with the two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback.
“Ben and I’s relationship has grown immensely throughout the whole season,” stated Freiermuth. “Game-in and game-out and practice, stuff like that — I think we’ve developed a comfort level for each-other.”
As Roethlisberger’s trust has grown in the rookie, he’s become one of his go-to targets. To illustrate, Roethlisberger looked for Freiermuth with the game on the line against the Minnesota Vikings — throwing it his way into the end-zone as time expired.
While Freiermuth wasn’t able to haul it in due to a gigantic hit, the Steelers are turning their attention to the Tennessee Titans. Ahead of the all-important games, the former Penn State star elaborated on what he has his eyes on.
“They do a good job disguising their two-deep — they’re not always just two-deep safeties,” stated Freiermuth. Sometimes they’ll invert, sometimes they’ll bring the corners out to play that two-deep half. Just the way they disguise and stuff like that. They’re very confident in their secondary, and they have a good pass rush, so it’s definitely going to be a handful. But I think this week of preparation and stuff like that has been very good.”
