The Pittsburgh Steelers honored Troy Polamalu, Donnie Shell, Alan Faneca and Bill Cowher with Ring of Excellence inductions on Sunday.

The four Steelers greats returned to Heinz Field for the game versus the Seattle Seahawks, which resulted in a 23-20 overtime win for Pittsburgh.

Steelers president Art Rooney II presented the rings to the inductees in their Hall of Fame jackets ahead of the game as they stood next to their bronze busts.

Bill Cowher, Steelers’ head coach for 15 years, went 161–99–1 with one Super Bowl victory in 2006. Troy Polamalu played exclusively for Pittsburgh for 12 years and was selected to the Pro Bowl eight times.

Alan Faneca played on the Steelers offensive line from 1998 to 2007. Over the course of his career, he made the All-Pro teams nine times.

Donnie Shell played for Pittsburgh from 1974-1987, winning four Super Bowls and making the Pro Bowl four times.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin congratulated the class of 2020 and 2021 Hall of Famers after the win.

“A big congratulations to our Hall of Fame honorees that got recognized tonight. And a hearty welcome to the alumni that had an opportunity to be in attendance,” said Tomlin. “It’s an honor to perform for those guys and put together a winning performance.

“We’ve got so much respect for the standards that have been set here by those that have come before us. We don’t run away from it, we run to it, we embrace it. It was great to have a really competitive team victory with those men in attendance.”

The Steelers head into the bye week with a 3-3 record. They’ll take on the Cleveland Browns on the road on Halloween.

TJ Watt delivers for Steelers

Star defensive end TJ Watt showed up in a major way for the Steelers on Sunday.

Watt finished with seven tackles, two sacks for a loss of 13 yards, three pass defenses and a forced fumble. His sack on Geno Smith forced the Seahawks to punt on their opening possession of OT.

Then Watt had a strip-sacked Smith, allowing for a Devin Bush scoop and recovery. The Steelers went on to kick a 37-yard field goal for the win.

“I don’t think anyone is surprised by (Watt’s) ability to deliver in those moments,” said Mike Tomlin post-game. “Yes, he’s a great player, but it’s about what he’s willing to do in terms of preparation and conditioning himself and all of those things. It’s not anything mystical about that play-making, man. We’re talking about a guy that’s really talented, that works extremely hard, that’s hyper-focused, prepared physically and mentally, so that’s what happens.”

TJ Watt is ninth in the league with five sacks through six weeks.
