The United State’s Men’s National Team is in the middle of a two-week window of international competition. These qualifiers are vitally important as the U.S. attempts to make its first World Cup since 2014. Ahead of the USMNT’s next game, it released a hype video narrated by former Ohio State star and current Dallas Cowboy Ezekiel Elliott.

The Wednesday game is set to kickoff at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and ESPN+. Coming off a disappointing loss to Panama, the USMNT will face the Costa Rican national team in Columbus, Ohio, minutes away from where Elliott played college football.

“Y’all heard? There’s a big game in Ohio this week,” Elliott says in the opening seconds of the video. “Yeah, I’ve been a part of a few of those. Something about that Columbus crowd – see it’s not just about the scarlet and the grey – Columbus is the home of the red, white and blue.

“Crew Stadium might be history, but crucial qualifiers in Columbus, those aren’t going anywhere. And now, as the road to the World Cup rolls on, another ‘America’s Team’ returns to Columbus. It’s good to have them back.”

Coming into Wednesday, the USMNT stands second in the CONCACAF standings, in place to secure one of the three automatic qualifying spots for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. However, they stand just one point above Canada in fourth, which would place them in a playoff for one of the final bids.

Without national heroes Christian Pulisic or Giovanni Reyna (out with injury), the USMT must rely on the play of teenage star Ricardo Pepi, along with midfielders Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie.

More about Ezekiel Elliott

Ezekiel Elliott is no stranger to the environment the USMNT will experience on Wednesday night. The former Ohio State Buckeye played three seasons in front of rowdy fans, riding their energy to a national championship in 2014.

Over his time in Columbus, Elliott picked up 4,410 scrimmage yards and 44 touchdowns. He finished eighth in Heisman voting as a junior before leaving for the NFL. The star running back was then selected No. 4 overall in the 2016 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys, where he has played ever since.

Now in his sixth NFL season, Elliott has become one of the top running backs in the league. He is a three-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro with the Cowboys. He has eclipsed 1,000 scrimmage yards in each season, totaling 8,848 total yards with 62 touchdowns.
