Chris Olave reacts to landing in New Orleans, joining Ohio State pipeline

Chris Olave put together a standout career at Ohio State, there’s no question about it. Tallying 2,711 yards and 35 touchdowns over four seasons with the Buckeyes, Olave has now closed the door on his collegiate career and is ready to take his game to the next level.

Olave took the first step in doing just that last Thursday night, as he was selected No. 11 overall by the New Orleans Saints in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. As Olave makes the move to New Orleans, he’ll be joining forces with another former Ohio State wide receiver in Michael Thomas – in addition to five other former Buckeyes.

In his first press conference after being selected by the Saints, Olave reacted to landing with the organization and joining the Ohio State-to-New Orleans pipeline.

“I can’t wait,” Olave said. “They told me in the process they love the Buckeyes, so I knew it was going to be a good fit for me – playing alongside Mike Thomas. I’m glad we’ve got that pipeline going.”

While Olave and Thomas are teaming up in New Orleans, the Saints’ roster currently includes five other former Ohio State players in cornerbacks Marshon Lattimore and Bradley Roby, tight end Nick Vannett, linebacker Pete Werner and defensive end Jalyn Holmes.

Olave explains what he brings to the NFL

Ahead of the NFL Draft, Olave joined ESPN’s First Take last Thursday morning and made his case to be the first wideout selected.

“I think, besides all of the production and everything I do on the field, I feel like I’m a leader – on and off the field,” Olave said. “The way I approach the game, I feel like it’s second-to-none. I feel like that’s what separates me from the class.

“I feel like I’m a receiver of multiple traits. I’m a deep threat, and also I can run any route. I feel like that’s huge to have in the NFL, not to be just a one-level receiver. I feel like I’m a well-rounded prospect.”
