The Arizona Cardinals lost right guard Will Hernandez on Sunday versus the Carolina Panthers after he was ejected while defending teammate James Conner. After Carolina linebacker Frankie Luvu received a flag for a hit on the running back, Hernandez moved to shove Luvu and in doing so, made illegal contact with the head official.

Hernandez’s penalty offset the initial flag on the Panther’s outside linebacker. The offensive lineman was a second-round draft pick to the New York Giants in 2018. He signed a deal with the Cardinals this offseason as a free agent.

Earlier this week, it was unclear if the former New York Jet would be able to play on Sunday. He was limited in practice due to a shoulder sting. Now, he’s come up with the biggest play of the game so far for Carolina.

In 2021, Luvu finished the year tied for second on the team in special teams tackles, and had a forced fumble and a blocked punt last year. He also added 1.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss, and a forced fumble and fumble recovery on defense.
