2022 NFL Draft: Contract details released for Jordan Davis, Philadelphia Eagles

After being taken 13th overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2022 NFL Draft this past week, former Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis is in for a big pay day. The details from Davis’ rookie contract were released by Spotrac, along with every other player who was selected in the seven-round draft.

The Bulldogs product is set to make a total of $17 million over the next four seasons, including a $9.55 million signing bonus. He will make a base salary of $3 million in 2022 and also has a fifth-year option for 2026.

The Eagles were bullish on Davis, so much so that they traded up to select him, sending the No. 15, 124, 162 and 166 overall picks to Houston for the No. 13 selection. He should make an impact right away in Philadelphia, as he was one of the most highly touted prospects according to draft pundits.

In his four seasons with the Bulldogs, Davis emerged as one of the top defensive players in the entire nation. Last season, Davis realized his dream of bringing a championship to Georgia, helping to end a drought that spanned over 40 years when the Bulldogs defeated Alabama in the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship Game. Additionally, the star defensive lineman was the recipient of the Chuck Bednarik Award, presented annually to the best defensive player in college football.

Much was made about Davis’ weight throughout his collegiate career and the pre-draft process. The defensive tackled was listed at 341 pounds at the NFL Combine, and some scouts were concerned that he wouldn’t be able to stay on the field long enough to be worth a first round pick.

However, he silenced plenty of the doubters with an impressive 4.78 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine to go along with his 32-inch vertical and 123-inch broad jump. Georgia coach Kirby Smart said the weight wasn’t an issue for Jordan Davis with the Bulldogs, and if the Eagles use him correctly, it won’t matter in the NFL either.

“It depends on how teams are using him,” Smart said when asked what Davis’ ideal weight would be. “If team’s are using him for every down, pass rushing things, he’s probably going to need to stay between 325-335. If he’s not going to be that guy, if he’s going to be a stop the run guy and you can put faster guys on the field, then he probably needs to be 345-355. But the teams will make that decision.”
